So why isn't Heritage going on after the root of the problem, which is precisely what Lutnick outlined above at Davos?
That is a winning message conservatives would do well to embrace in 2026. And the good news is that President Trump is already leading the way. He recently announced his intention to tackle the unaffordability of single-family homes and abuses in the credit-card industry, and Heritage looks forward to contributing our thoughts and recommendations into that discussion and those to come.
That's a lie. Credit card interest is not why Americans are not having children. Unaffordability of homes is part of it but that comes back to supply and demand; removing demand is the only reasonably-rapid means of changing that imbalance. This means removing illegal immigrants and "asylees" who, by definition, compete for said homes whether at the lower end or otherwise, never mind that the lower end is where most young people start.
Of course taking care of these things will, as it collapses asset prices in one area (e.g. houses) also do so in others (e.g. stocks.) Many people don't like that idea very much but in addition to short-term things that a President can do via Executive action (starting with merely enforcing 100+ year old laws such as those that mandate insurance companies cannot negotiate together), and by doing so collapse health care costs by 80% (an imputed tax that costs the family of four on average $40,000 a year in spendable earnings every single year) any such changes in this regard must be in a form that a young couple can expect to be durable over a 20+ year time frame -- and not mercurial and thus subject to change after the next Congressional or Presidential election.
You cannot expect a young couple to act without said legally enforceable assurance across more than 20 years when it takes 20 years, roughly, from the time of deciding to have a child until said child is a grown adult from the entity that has been destroying the capacity to functionally afford to raise children!
