Someone who is working to discover what is true doesn’t have that problem. Either the amphiboly is there or it isn’t. Either the fixation math works or it doesn’t. Either the twelve historical cases confirm the empirical predictions or they don’t. The work provides its own verdict. You don’t need a biologist to admit that natural selection can’t originate new species, a professional philosopher to confirm the Trilemma is solved or a Catholic priest to approve your proof of the doctrine of Original Sin. You are already certain because you found the flaw, built the counterexample, pressure-tested it through hundreds of rounds of adversarial challenge, and have not only seen every attempted refutation fail, but catalogued them by type.

The endorsement of the credentialed is potentially be useful for propagation, but nothing more. Their opinions are irrelevant to the question of whether the result is genuinely correct or not....

....The people chasing lollipops and fancy pants can never reach that level of confidence because they never attempt the kind of work that provides its own confirmation. They do work that requires external validation because the work itself doesn’t generate internal certainty. And then they wonder why they feel like frauds. They feel like frauds, less because they are necessarily frauds themselves, but because the entire system is an elaborate fraud, and at some level they know it.

The Triveritas, ironically, explains this phenomenon. Prize-chasers are optimizing for a single dimension, usually E in the form of social consensus, sometimes L in the form of formal sophistication, rarely M. They never require all three. So they never achieve the epistemic security that comes from knowing your result has been methodically confirmed on three independent dimensions by three independent methods. They can always be unseated by the next fashion, the next committee, the next trend in the field.
