Our New High Priest - by bionic mosquito

....Why would Abraham the Patriarch offer tithes to a strange man? Who was this man, without father or mother? Why does he appear in Scripture? Why was no bloody sacrifice offered, as was the custom? Why bread and wine?

The Jews cannot find an answer to all these questions. However, the apostle Paul reveals its mystery by declaring that Melchizedek being the symbol of the Lord Christ, has surpassed even Abraham who is carrying the priesthood in himself.

Abraham, the Patriarch of the Jews and of the priestly caste of Levites, is offering a tithe to another, illustrating that Melchizedek is higher than Abraham!....

.....Conclusion

Then there is this additional significant difference:

23 Also there were many priests, because they were prevented by death from continuing. 24 But He, because He continues forever, has an unchangeable priesthood.

All Levitical priests would die, so there was always a need for another priest. Not so for the priest whom Melchizedek represented. Our priest, the Lord Jesus Christ, lives forever. Therefore, He represents us forever.

Epilogue

This chapter by Malaty has been, for me, one of the most illuminating of this study thus far. I knew all the Bible verses about Melchizedek, but had never really tied all the clues together as is done in Malaty’s work. Then again, I have never really studied Hebrews in detail before, so I’m sure this had something to do with my ignorance.
