This August, according to BLS’s seasonally
adjusted data, there were 12,329,000 employed by the manufacturing sector in
the United States. But back in August 1941, there were 12,532,000 employed by
the manufacturing sector. By December 1941, the month of the Pearl Harbor
attack, employment in the U.S. manufacturing sector had risen to 12,876,000.
