During the early 1990s Germar Rudolf was a young chemist employed at Germany’s prestigious Max Planck Institute with a bright future ahead of him.

But then he was hired to conduct a chemical analysis of the walls of the Auschwitz concentration camp. One thing led to another and he spent the next thirty-odd years suffering under waves of severe legal repression, including bouts of imprisonment, while even having his Ph.D. rescinded.

Over the last quarter-century, he has become the leading publisher and distributor of Holocaust Denial materials, with his Holocaust Handbooks series now containing several dozen volumes, all freely available for downloading and also offered for sale in hard copy editions. Most recently, Rudolf produced a comprehensive Holocaust Encyclopedia aggregating together much of this information, available both in a thick printed volume and even more usefully in online HTML format on his website.

World War II certainly ranks as the most colossal military conflict in all of human history and its outcome shaped our modern world.

For more than eighty years, a vast ocean of Western books and articles have been produced on its history, nearly all of these generally aligned with the long-accepted standard narrative. This written material has become the basis for an equally vast quantity of electronic content that all of us have absorbed during our entire lives.

Yet much of that deeply entrenched narrative seems to collapse when faced by the material contained in a relatively small number of books that remain almost totally unknown today, unknown not merely to the general public but also to our educated elites and probably even to a very large majority of our professional historians.

There is often a naive tendency to assume that any such important but unknown books were produced by fringe figures, and have been ignored for exactly that reason. But this is generally not the case.

Among the dozen books I have discussed above, nearly all the authors were figures of the greatest mainstream credibility, often having the strongest possible credentials. In some cases these books even became major national bestsellers. But because the story they told or the information they provided deviated so drastically from the narrative constructed by our media, they were generally ignored, either at the time of their publication or soon afterward, and eventually faded into an obscurity that was so complete that they have become almost entirely unknown today.

If and when some of these books become much less unknown, our entire understanding of much of twentieth century history may be transformed.
