...I have come to embrace the idea that salvation is a hospital, and not merely a declaration of “not guilty”; the “new thing” for me that I am cautious doesn’t diminish or displace the old thing.

Here once again, in this passage in Luke, we see Jesus healing physical defects.

Death was the consequence of Adam’s disobedience. God didn’t tell Adam he would be guilty; He told him he would die. Yes, he sinned, and this sin required forgiveness. But the consequence was death. Jesus came to heal us; salvation is to move from corruption to incorruption.

Of course, corruption includes the corruption of vices and disobedience; in other words, sin. And this sin also requires healing. But corruption includes so much more: physical, mental, emotional, spiritual corruption. We are to be healed in every way.

Jesus is demonstrating this healing throughout the Gospels.

Later in the same chapter, we meet a sinful woman who washes Jesus’ feet. Jesus concludes this interaction:

48 Then He said to her, “Your sins are forgiven.”

As mentioned, Jesus came to forgive sins as well.

50 Then He said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you. Go in peace.”

Her faith was demonstrated by her actions. It was her faith, in action, that saved her. Something else I have learned on this journey. How to better understand the relationship of faith and works.
