Questions du jour: Can the US government make itself even more untrustworthy? Has it become an enemy of the people? Just wondering. What would be worse, actually, is if we learn that American culture is untrustworthy, since politics is downstream of culture. It would be the equivalent writ large of a human personality at war with itself, unable to trust its own thoughts and actions.

Which perhaps explains the seeming psychosis raging through our society at the moment. The hallucinatory delusions of the day are exactly what you’d expect in the kind of personality undergoing a psychotic stress fracture, like the character Norman Bates in Hitchcock’s classic horror movie, Psycho. Poor Norman (or “Mister Bates,” as Hitch playfully had the other characters call him), developed the unfortunate habit of dressing up like his deceased Mother and slashing to death any other female for whom Mister Bates had impure thoughts. That was the 1960s version of the Transsexual Story Hour. We’ve come a long way, baby, since those innocent days.

In today’s day, another part of the collective personality is suddenly coming apart: science, or The Science, as the lingo has it these days. The Science is the system of hypotheses and proofs that normally plays the hero’s role in the task of determining reality, especially about things that are dangerous to mankind. The Science is supposedly behind what we know about the Covid-19 pandemic that has turned America, and much of the whole world, upside down. The Science has become so untrustworthy that an awful lot of people harbor suspicions that it has been running a number on them for the past year.

In the early going of the War on Covid-19, The Science told its soldiers, the doctors, to jam ventilators down patients’ throats. Whoops, that didn’t work so well. The Science told everybody to fuggeddabowt Ivermectin, hydroxychloroquine, Zinc, and Vitamin D. The Science told New York Governor Andrew Cuomo to stash Covid-19 infected patients in nursing homes. The Science told everybody don’t bother with masks, then to definitely wear masks, then to maybe not wear masks, then to wear double masks, then to get vaccinated and wear masks. Golly, what to believe? Some people began to think that The Science was full of shit — which is, let’s face it, a dangerous thought, and something which, thank Gawd, Facebook, Twitter, and Google corrected for us.

One thing The Science remained adamant about for a whole year was that Covid-19 did not come from the Wuhan, China, Institute of Virology, where-and-to-which, it just happened, one of the US government’s Knights of The Science, Dr. Anthony Fauci, was funneling US taxpayer-funded grant money for the purpose of doing gain-of-function research on exotic bat corona viruses. Gosh, why would you even do that? (Doesn’t gain of function = make it more deadly?)

Supposedly to gain knowledge so that mankind will be prepared to fight the emergence of deadly bat viruses that somehow manage to sneak into the human population at some future date. These things can happen, you know. We’ve already tangled with bird flu and swine flu, so deadly bat flu could hardly be out of the question. Of course, one of the dangers, when you are playing with deadly respiratory viruses in a lab, is that lab workers might inhale a virus or two and become infected with a specimen that The Science has engineered to be especially troublesome… but that was very unlikely, maintained Dr. Anthony Fauci, Chief Science Advisor to the President.

Until this month when Dr. Fauci conceded to a Senate Committee that perhaps an investigation was warranted to find out if, perchance, Covid-19 escaped from the Wuhan lab — since, it turns out, the Wuhan lab was such a sloppy-ass operation that its level of safety was comparable to an ordinary dentist’s office. It also turns out, according to a Wall Street Journal report this week, that three Wuhan lab workers did indeed need to be hospitalized in November 2019, which was around the time the bug got loose among the civilians of Wuhan City, while Chinese tourists and workers were still winging around the world on airplanes by the tens of thousands — prompting one to wonder whether, also perchance, this was something that the CCP wanted to happen? ¿Quién sabe?

Now that “safe and effective” vaccines are available against Covid-19, The Science is urging everybody to take it, pronto, and the government is assisting in the distribution and deployment of vaccinations even to the very borderline of coercing citizens into it by turning the “vaccine hesitant” into social pariahs. No restaurant meals or ballgames for you Science-offending trolls! How’s that working? According to Dr. Fauci, and several other Knights of The Science, more than half of the people on their staffs got vaxed voluntarily. More than half! Now that’s a ringing vote of confidence in The Science!

Never mind that the vaxes being deployed got exempted from the normal years-long safety trials that The Science previously deemed essential for new vaccines, and received special liability protection against lawsuits, should something go awry with the jabs. And never mind the strange side-effects being reported, ranging from human reproductive problems to fatal blood clots. And never mind that apparently quite a few people who got the vax have also gotten Covid-19. And never mind that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has continued to flutter about her place of business wearing color-coordinated face masks, despite being vaxed and spending her time among colleagues who are all vaxed up.

Standing by on all that to see how the vaccine beta-testers make out over a somewhat longer haul…. Meanwhile, the next national reality test is underway in Arizona and just now gearing up in the state of Georgia, too. That would be Election Science, or the hypotheses and proofs of how ballots are cast and votes are tallied. These are also matters that our Knights of Public Management, such as Arizona Governor Doug Doucy and Georgia Governor Brian Kemp, and their Secretaries of State Hobbs and Raffensperger, declare to be unworthy of investigation. And yet, investigations are apparently proceeding against their wishes and convictions, thanks to the Arizona State Senate and some Georgia judges. Standing by now to see how much more psychotic America’s collective persona grows as that nasty business creeps forward.

Time for a Coalition of Free American States By J.B. Shurk

I want to make a suggestion.  It is past time for some type of "coalition of free American states."

States have a long history of creating partnerships with each other.  Law enforcement task forces, farming cooperatives, river management boards, and collegiate sports conferences all benefit individual states through regional collaborations and are common throughout the United States.  It is also common for state attorneys general to coordinate lawsuits against the federal government.  Republican governors and Democrat governors meet at party retreats to strategize how best to advance their respective parties' interests.  And innumerable lobbying and legal groups work every year to promote the passage of nearly identical statutory language in state legislatures across the country.  

What I have in mind is more substantial — the formation of a coalition of free states whose explicit purpose is to reduce the power of the federal government over individual states and their citizens while banding together to lessen the inevitable retaliatory blows the federal government will initiate against the states in response.

Although America's constitutional form of limited government was designed specifically to maximize the liberty of citizens and maximize the power of states at the expense of the federal government, the accumulation of power has flowed only in one direction — away from individual states and individual citizens and toward the national government in D.C.  This phenomenon is so natural throughout history that it was a chief concern of the Founding Fathers themselves.  Thomas Jefferson, a shrewd student of human nature, was blunt: "Experience hath shewn [sic], that even under the best forms of government those entrusted with power have, in time, and by slow operations, perverted it into tyranny."  

Let's be honest: the federal government hasn't looked in tip-top shape for a long time, and now it's a train wreck waiting to happen.  

It's made up of millions of petty bureaucrats who couldn't care less about "serving the public."  Rather, they use their sinecures to exert power over (and not on behalf of) Americans and turn a tidy profit in the process.  As was made clear while President Trump was in office, the president's prerogative is routinely thwarted by an unelected administrative Leviathan that has no foundation in the Constitution's division of government but does move to the Democratic Party's marching orders.  Congress is made up of below-average-intelligence scoundrels and prima donnas who pretend to be statesmen and lawmakers while outside lobbyists, corporate kingmakers, and foreign governments write the laws that punch the rest of us right in the gut.  And the federal courts have become home to too many political hacks camouflaged in priestly robes who distort the rule of law in pursuit of partisan objectives.  

Notwithstanding the timely re-emergence of fiscal conservatives every few years who promise to have an answer to America's budgetary crisis and looming financial Armageddon, nobody honestly believes there is any way to arrest America's runaway debt explosion and unfunded liabilities spiraling past 250 trillion dollars while one quarter of the money supply now in circulation has been created out of thin air in just the last year.  

Meanwhile, the U.S. military is engaged in war in some eighty countries — or nearly half the nations on the planet — and most Americans have no idea what kind of fighting is being done on their behalf or why.  They do know that while the federal government finds the logistical legerdemain to engage in global conflict, it cannot (and will not) be bothered to use any of that skill to secure the southern border — preferring instead to enable drug-traffickers and criminal gangs to wage war against American citizens while at the same time demanding that Americans relinquish their Second Amendment rights to self-protection.

But do not worry.  Have no fear.  We have an Intelligence Community in America that is keeping everyone safe by reading all of our emails and text messages, spying on our phone calls, and generally making sure that any American objecting to the State-enforced political correctness struggle sessions of the day be added to the government's growing list of "extremists."  The same bunch of propagandists who could be counted on to push the Russia hoax for Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, and who will now make sure that the origins of the Wuhan Virus get covered up for the political benefit of Joe Biden, are the wizards who regularly engage in national disinformation campaigns against the American people for their own good.  Was the CIA lying about Russian bounties being paid for the killing of American soldiers in Afghanistan in order to manipulate White House policy?  Sure.  Is military intelligence pushing UFO sightings today to distract the American people from emerging crises on the horizon?  Maybe.  Is there any check whatsoever on the powers of the Intelligence Community?  Not likely.  Does anyone in Congress seem to care?  Nope.

At some point, the whole federal government is at risk of crashing down under the weight of its own extravagance.  Maybe the Ponzi scheme set up by Treasury and the Fed falls over like a Jenga tower in the near future, or U.S.-NATO provocations against Russia succeed in making us the beneficiary of a cyber- or EMP attack that takes out half the nation's electrical grid, or the Democrats' dance with woke fascism finally awakens enough Americans to the abundant threats to their freedom that people start pushing back.  It's as economist Herbert Stein adroitly pointed out: "If something cannot go on forever, it will stop."  Then what? 

Well, it's back to first principles, and those states prepared to exist without an overarching national government will survive.  Just as it was during America's founding, personal and economic freedoms will determine everything.  Those states that respect families and religious liberty, reward knowledge and hard work, secure property rights while limiting welfare, and protect economic and intellectual liberty over regulation will dig themselves out from whatever mess lands our way.  States that abandon currency manipulation by backing money with gold and silver will prosper.  In turn, innovation and social wealth will rise.  The same foundations in liberty that made America exceptional will redound to states' future survival and success.

The Democrats are on the wrong side of liberty.  The federal government has strayed entirely too far from the clear meaning of the U.S. Constitution, and its increasingly Marxist proclivities promise only further betrayal.  For American freedom to survive, the states must again do the heavy lifting.  It's time for a "coalition of the willing" to come together again.

Vox Popoli: Covid-19 was manufactured

Thereby demonstrating, once more, that the so-called "conspiracy theorists" are more reliable than the mainstream media narrative. It will be interesting to learn why this paper is now being permitted to see the light of day, in that we'd heard about these unnatural "fingerprints" last year. Perhaps there is simply too much evidence for it to be credibly denied, or perhaps the failure of the mass mRNA-modification program needs a new narrative. 

And the US government helped fund its development:

While analyzing COVID-19 samples last year in an attempt to create a vaccine, Dalgleish and Sørensen discovered 'unique fingerprints' in the virus that they say could only have arisen from manipulation in a laboratory. They said they tried to publish their findings but were rejected by major scientific journals which were at the time resolute that the virus jumped naturally from bats or other animals to humans.

Even when former MI6 chief Sir Richard Dearlove spoke out publicly saying the scientists' theory should be investigated, the idea was dismissed as 'fake news.'

Over a year later, leading academics, politicians and the media finally flipped, and have begun to contemplate the possibility that COVID-19 escaped from the Wuhan Institute of Virology in China - a lab where experiments included manipulating viruses to increase their infectiousness in order to study their potential effects on humans. 

This week, President Joe Biden ordered the intelligence community to re-examine how the virus originated, including the lab accident theory. The announcement followed the revelation that a previously undisclosed intelligence report had been made to the White House, claiming that several researchers at the Wuhan institute were hospitalized with illness in November 2019. The document was uncovered this week by the Wall Street Journal.  

US health officials have also come under fire for allegedly funding researchers' controversial and risky experiments at the Wuhan lab.

Now, Dalgleish and Sørensen have authored a new study, which concludes that 'SARS-Coronavirus-2 has no credible natural ancestor' and that it is 'beyond reasonable doubt' that the virus was created through 'laboratory manipulation'. 

In the 22-page paper which is set to be published in the scientific journal Quarterly Review of Biophysics Discovery, the scientists describe their months-long 'forensic analysis', looking back at experiments done at the Wuhan lab between 2002 and 2019. 

Digging through archives of journals and databases, Dalgleish and Sørensen pieced together how Chinese scientists, some working in concert with American universities, allegedly built the tools to create the coronavirus. Much of the work was centered around controversial 'Gain of Function' research – temporarily outlawed in the US under the Obama administration.

Gain of Function involves tweaking naturally occurring viruses to make them more infectious, so that they can replicate in human cells in a lab, allowing the virus's potential effect on humans to be studied and better understood. 

Dalgleish and Sørensen claim that scientists working on Gain of Function projects took a natural coronavirus 'backbone' found in Chinese cave bats and spliced onto it a new 'spike', turning it into the deadly and highly transmissible SARS-Cov-2.

One tell-tale sign of alleged manipulation the two men highlighted was a row of four amino acids they found on the SARS-Cov-2 spike.

In an exclusive interview with DailyMail.com, Sørensen said the amino acids all have a positive charge, which cause the virus to tightly cling to the negatively charged parts of human cells like a magnet, and so become more infectious.  But because, like magnets, the positively charged amino acids repel each other, it is rare to find even three in a row in naturally occurring organisms, while four in a row  is 'extremely unlikely,' the scientist said.

'The laws of physics mean that you cannot have four positively charged amino acids in a row. The only way you can get this is if you artificially manufacture it,' Dalgleish told DailyMail.com.

Their new paper says these features of SARS-Cov-2 are 'unique fingerprints' which are 'indicative of purposive manipulation', and that 'the likelihood of it being the result of natural processes is very small.' 

Thereby demonstrating, once more, that the so-called "conspiracy theorists" are more reliable than the mainstream media narrative. Peter gave a video interview where he described grafting spike protein enhancements onto bat coronaviruses for research purposes, and the work was being done at the Wuhan lab.

Not just Fauci either -- there are many people who were almost-certainly involved in this at the NIH including Fauci's wife who presumably had to sign off on the Bioethics aspects as she runs that department.

I'll be damned.

U.S. House members plan to introduce two bipartisan bills Friday that address the origins of the coronavirus pandemic and would allow victims' families to sue China. 

The first bill, the "Made in America Emergency Preparedness Act," would establish a 9/11-style bipartisan commission to investigate how the pandemic started. It is being introduced by five Democrats and five Republicans. 

The second bill, dubbed the "Never Again International Outbreak Prevention Act," calls for allowing families of coronavirus victims to sue China by stripping sovereign immunity from it and any other countries "that have intentionally misled the international community on the outbreak." It will be introduced by U.S. Reps. Brian Fitzpatrick, R-Pa., and Conor Lamb, D-Pa.

It's about damn time.

Along with investigating the origin of the virus, the panel proposed by the first bill would also look into the response by the U.S. government and the private sector and determine precautionary steps to take for the future.

Questions:

• Does this count US entities that have kissed up to China when it comes to supply lines in the medical field, such as the mask factory here in the US that I have written about and which was screwed after the 2009 Swine Flu outbreak when they put on extra staff and bought machinery at the behest of the US and various medical centers only to have them go right back to China for supply after '09 which nearly put them out of business?
  
  
• Does this count the single-minded focus on vaccines, including actual denials and refusals to investigate therapeutics we already had, including what appears to have been a deliberate false paper published in The Lancet, complete with falsified data from a firm that has now disappeared from public view and which collapsed that scam when they refused to release their source data?
  
  
• Does it include our own NIH, FDA and other regulatory agencies, both federal and state, which following that false "study" (which was withdrawn, by the way) slammed the door on the fingers of doctors attempting to use repurposed drugs to blunt the impact of the pandemic, including but not limited to Ivermectin, HCQ and Budesonide, said interference which continues to this day among corporate medical providers and which, we now know, do in fact work and would have prevented a large number of deaths?
  
  
• Does it include those inside our own NIH, FDA and CDC that opposed such uses and lied about myriad elements of the virus, including lying about physics and elements of expired breath which we knew in 1981 and followed right up until this pandemic broke out?
  
  
• Does it include the NIH and CDC deliberately failing to immediately fund, recruit and run studies on every potentially-useful existing drug within weeks of the pandemic's outbreak along with all of the so-called "non-profit" public health institutes and educational institutions such as Vanderbilt, Johns Hopkins, and Mayo?  There is no financial incentive for private firms to run these trials on off-patent, inexpensive drugs.  Who else is going to do it than non-profit and public institutions?  Nobody!  Then they all told us for more than a year "there wasn't enough data" after refusing to collect it.  What conflicts of interest exist between these institutions and the pharmaceutical industry and were they exploited to shut down such investigation, formally or otherwise?
  
  
• Does it include both government and private sector censorship of any discussion of the origins of this virus, the single-minded focus on vaccines, the death that resulted from doing so as there was no possible way to get shots into arms quickly enough to prevent the winter surge and which did, in fact, largely cause the majority of said deaths?
  
  
• Does it include accountability, including the ability to sue, such entities including Johns Hopkins, Vanderbilt, Mayo, IHME, Google, Facebook, Twitter and the media who acted in collusion in apparent violation of 15 USC Chapter 1, including the felony criminal penalties therein?
  
  
• Does it include entities, including politicians and other parts of both Federal and State Governments, who are almost-literally blowing Chairman Xi on a daily basis so that Nike, Apple, Amazon, WalMart and others don't have their stock prices go down, including folks like Governor Bill Lee of Tennessee?  Are they going to be held accountable?
  
  
• Does it include US pharmaceutical and medical supply firms that have also offshored both precursors and production to China and India, and as such both had strong incentives not to******off China when this whole thing started?  How about all the so-called "public health" connected universities that have gotten very comfortable with China because they send students over here that pay full tuition and thus would be very nervous about doing or saying anything that might******off the CCP?
  
  
• Does it include accountability for all entities that pushed and enforced any of this crap for the last year when by the data Sweden, which did basically none of that, has a curve that is for all intents and purposes identical to ours -- and materially less death?  In other words for all the screaming, yelling, masking and closing all we did was screw people, including screwing kids out of a year of education.

Don't get me wrong -- China's involvement should certainly be investigated as proposed.  But we cannot exclude US actors; Anthony Fauci, for example, who early on slammed Trump for suggesting that the virus had originated in the Wuhan lab, stating in public that was impossible when he, personally, knew damn well that the NIH had provided grant money to Peter Dazak's EcoHealth and they published results of laboratory work at Wuhan that, by any reasonable definition, was in fact gain-of-function research on bat coronaviruses including enhancing their infectivity in humanized mice.

Peter gave a video interview where he described grafting spike protein enhancements onto bat coronaviruses for research purposes, and the work was being done at the Wuhan lab.

Not just Fauci either -- there are many people who were almost-certainly involved in this at the NIH including Fauci's wife who presumably had to sign off on the Bioethics aspects as she runs that department.

As I noted very, very early on there are two extremely suspicious codons (sequences of RNA) next to each other in the spike area of the virus, right at what is called the "furin cleavage area" which is essential for the virus to penetrate human cells.  Without those codons the virus would be very poorly infective in humans and in fact almost-certainly not have led to a pandemic at all.  They are in the preferred conformation for human cells, which is a virtual impossibility if the virus arose naturally through infecting animals, including pangolins, but are exactly what would expect if you were working in a lab and repeatedly passed the virus through human cell cultures in gain-of-function research.

We now know that there were cases of what appeared to be Covid-19 in China dating back to the middle of November and they were quite numerous, which confirms calculations I made back when Italy was being hammered in the spring of 2020 where, from the sequencing uploaded to public databases, it was quite clear that the virus had to be "out" in the wild no latter than October.  If I could run this calculation using nothing other than public data and reach that conclusion as an ordinary reporter in the early months of 2020 why didn't the NIH run said calculations or, if they did, why didn't they talk about the findings given that Fauci factually knew that grant money went to Wuhan through Peter's organization?

There are many, many further "coincidences" when it comes to both the origin of the virus and our response.  Many of those actions appear to have been informed not by science but rather be political and financial animus, including protecting the development of shots at the expense of human lives through deliberately refusing to study and use early treatments both here and abroad, and include the intentional suppression of such discussion by private actors in collusion with major news organizations including WaPo which is owned by Amazon's Bezos, the latter of which, incidentally, profited mightily from the pandemic while other American businesses and workers suffered and died.  In addition there were many newly-minted billionaires as a direct consequence of the single-minded focus on shots all of whom appear to have made their money at the expense of human lives by deliberate black-balling of both study and use of alternatives that we now know are effective and reduce both morbidity and mortality.

EVERYONE involved in this must be held to account -- not just China.

Vox Popoli: Skinsuits for satanists

There is one minor problem with the way this poll was reported: the tenet is not false:

Fifteen percent of Americans agree with the central false tenet of the QAnon conspiracy theory: that the government and other entities are controlled by Satan-worshipping pedophiles running a child sex trafficking ring, according to a new poll.

Among Republicans the survey, released Wednesday by the Public Religion Research Institute, found that 23 percent of respondents agreed with the statement that “the government, media and financial worlds in the U.S. are controlled by a group of Satan-worshipping pedophiles who run a global child sex trafficking operation.”

That number declines to 14 percent among independents and 8 percent among Democrats. 

The survey also found that 20 percent of Americans believe another central part of the conspiracy theory, that “there is a storm coming soon that will sweep away the elites in power and restore the rightful leaders."

Twenty-eight percent of Republicans surveyed agreed with the statement, compared to 18 percent of independents and 14 percent of Democrats.

The poll also found that 15 percent of survey respondents said that “because things have gotten so far off track, true American patriots may have to resort to violence in order to save our country.”

Americans have desperately tried to avoid accepting the obvious: their nation was destroyed by evil people who labored hard from 1920 to 1965 to open up the borders of the USA for precisely that purpose. But the truth is no longer deniable by anyone with even a modicum of honesty and historical awareness. The only question is what price Americans will have to pay for being foolish and stupid enough to permit the entry of history's great nation-wreckers, and how much land they will have to sacrifice to the imported foreign hordes in order to be free again.

Fortunately, it is already clear that the century-long attempt by the Satan-worshipping pedophiles to utilize the US empire to establish their long-cherished dream of Techno-Babylon has failed. Both the Chinese and the Russians are already at war with them; the Russians expelled them and the Chinese have refused to fall for their usual blandishments.

That is why they are so desperate to thought police, muzzle, and disarm the American people, why they had to fake the 2020 election so openly, and why they are trying to start wars with both Russia and China. They have nowhere else to go. They know perfectly well that once the American people begin to understand exactly what they are and precisely whom they serve, there will be no mercy for them, no matter how much they shriek and cry about anti-satanism.

By their fruits then surely ye shall know them.

Satan does not wish to rule in secret. His proud and arrogant servitors dream of seeing the inferior masses cringing and cowering before them in submission. And that is why his schemes, sooner or later, will always come to light.

No one who has been paying attention could doubt the reality of this threat to our country. As frequent Crisis contributor Paul Kengor demonstrates in his excellent book The Devil and Karl Marx, Communists have been slowly taking over the institutions of this nation for the last hundred years. Now, they appear ready to make a push for complete control of the country. They do not always call themselves Marxists, or Communists, or Socialists, but their goal is the same—to create a Soviet America.  

The "Socialism and Marxism vs Constitutional freedom and liberty conflict" put forth by conservatives is a false front. The real war is not about Right and Left, or Capitalist and Communist, or Soviet and American, or Axis and Allies, or Republican and Nationalist, and it never has been. All of those identities are just skinsuits for satanists.

The truth really isn't that hard to grasp for those who are honest with themselves. Tolkien, for one, understood how the world works. Ask yourself this question: in the current US context, who are the Grima Wormtongues, over whom do they wield influence, and to whom do they answer?

The Promethean capture of science, and the transformation of scientistry into a propaganda machine for a very old religion, may not have begun with this 1923 essay by the revered J.B.S. Haldane, entitled, DAEDELUS or Science and the Future, but it is clearly detectable in hindsight.

Ever since the time of Berkeley it has been customary for the majority of metaphysicians to proclaim the ideality of Time, of Space, or of both. But they soon made it clear that in spite of this, time would continue to wait for no man, and space to separate lovers. The only practical consequences that they generally drew was that their own ethical and political views were somehow inherent in the structure of the universe. The experimental proof or disproof of such deductions is difficult, and --- if the late war may be regarded as an experimental disproof of certain of Hegel's political tenets --- costly and unsatisfactory.

Einstein, so far from deducing an new decalogue, has contented himself with deducing the consequences to space and time themselves of their ideality. These are mostly too small to be measurable, but some, such as the deflection of light but the sun's gravitational field, are susceptible of verification, and have been verified. The majority of scientific men are now being constrained by the evidence of these experiments to adopt a very extreme form of Kantian idealism. The Kantian Ding-an-sich is an eternal four-dimensional manifold, which we perceive as space and time, but what we regard as space and what as time is more or less fortuitous.

It is perhaps interesting to speculate on the practical consequences of Einstein's discovery. I do not doubt that he will be believed. A prophet who can give signs in the heavens is always believed. No one ever seriously questioned Newton's theory after the return of Halley's comet. Einstein has told us that space, time and matter are shadows of the fifth dimension, and the heavens have declared his glory. In consequence Kantian idealism will become the basal working hypothesis of the physicist and finally of all educated men, just as materialism did after Newton's day. We may not call ourselves materialists, but we do interpret the activities of the moon, the Thames, influenza, and aeroplanes in terms of matter. Our ancestors did not, nor, in all probability, will our descendants. The materialism (whether conscious or sub-conscious does not matter very much) of the last few generations has led to various results of practical importance, such as sanitation, Marxian socialism, and the right of an accused person to give evidence on his or her own behalf. The reign of Kantian idealism as the basal working hypothesis, first of physics, and then of every-day life, will in all probability last for some centuries. At the end of that time a similar step in advance will be taken. Einstein showed that experience cannot be interpreted in terms of space and time. This was a well-known fact, but so long as space and time down not break down in their own special sphere, that of explaining the facts of motion, physicists continued to believe in them, or at any rate, what was much more important, to think in terms of them for practical purposes.

A time will however come (as I believe) when physiology will invade and destroy mathematical physics, as the latter have destroyed geometry. The basic metaphysical working hypothesis of science and practical life will then, I think, be something like Bergsonian activism. I do not for one moment suggest that this or any other metaphysical system has any claims whatever to finality.

Meanwhile we are in for a few centuries during which many practical activities will probably be conducted on a basis, not of materialism, but of Kantian idealism. How will this affect our manners, morals and politics? Frankly I do not know, though I think the effect will be as great as that of Newton's work, which created most of the intellectual forces of the 18th century. The Condorcets, Benthams, and Marxs of the future will I think be as ruthlessly critical of the metaphysics and ethics of their times as were their predecessors, but not quite so sure of their own; they will lack a certain heaviness of touch which we may note in Utilitarianism and Socialism. They will recognise that perhaps in ethics as in physics, there are so to speak fourth and fifth dimensions that show themselves by effects which, like the perturbations of the planet Mercury, are hard to detect even in one generation, but yet perhaps in the course of ages are quite as important as the three- dimensional phenomena.

If the quantum hypothesis is generally adopted even more radical alterations in our thinking will be necessary. But I feel it premature even to suggest their direction in the present unsatisfactory state of quantum mechanics. It may be that as Poincare (the other Poincare) suggested we shall be forced to conceive of all changes as occurring in a series of clicks, and all space as consisting of discrete points. However this may be it is safe to say that a better knowledge of radiation will permit us to produce it in a more satisfactory manner than is at present possible. Almost all our present sources of light are hot bodies, 95% of whose radiation is invisible. To light a lamp as a source of light is about as wasteful of energy as to burn down one's house to roast one's pork. It is a fairly safe prophecy that in 50 years light will cost about a fiftieth of its present price, and there will be no more night in our cities. The alternation of day and night is a check on the freedom of human activity which must go the way of other spatial and temporal checks. In the long run I think that all that applied physics can do for us is abolish these checks. It enables us to possess more, travel more, and communicate more. I shall not attempt to predict in detail the future developments of transport and communication. They are only limited by the velocity of light. We are working towards a condition when any two persons on earth will be able to be completely present to one another in not more than 1/24 of a second. We shall never reach it, but that is the limit which we shall approach indefinitely.

Developments in this direction are tending to bring mankind more and more together, to render life more and more complex, artificial, and rich in possibilities --- to increase indefinitely man's powers for good and evil.

Haldan's speech is now considered a foundation of transhumanist philosophy. 

Fundamental ideas of transhumanism were first advanced in 1923 by the British geneticist J. B. S. Haldane in his essay Daedalus: Science and the Future, which predicted that great benefits would come from the application of advanced sciences to human biology—and that every such advance would first appear to someone as blasphemy or perversion, "indecent and unnatural". In particular, he was interested in the development of the science of eugenics, ectogenesis (creating and sustaining life in an artificial environment), and the application of genetics to improve human characteristics, such as health and intelligence. 

Science should not be confused with the religion itself, as all three aspects of science are merely the tool and the fetish of the Promethean transhumanism it serves. Needless to say, the Vaxx is the mass practical application, possibly though not necessarily the first, of transhumanist religion to humanity. Whether it will prove to be an advance for the species, an evolutionary dead end, an extinction event, or a spiritual blasphemy has yet to be determined.

But regardless, I tend to doubt that those whose evaluation of the present crisis are limited to the material, the scientodific, and the political are going to be able to comprehend much of what is happening, or what it is genuinely at stake here.

Julian Huxley wrote: Many people assert that this abandonment of the god hypothesis means the abandonment of all religion and all moral sanctions. This is simply not true. But it does mean, once our relief at jettisoning an outdated piece of ideological furniture is over, that we must construct something to take its place.

And now we are beginning to see that which has been constructed to take the place of God: Techno-Babylon. But instead of building a temple to the race of Man, they are building a temple of the race of Man. Note, in particular, the gleefully demonic way in which Haldane ends his essay with a mocking parody of G.K. Chesterton's The Ballad of the White Horse.

The scientific worker of the future will more and more resemble the lonely figure of Daedalus as he becomes conscious of his ghastly mission, and proud of it.
