This isn’t a new phenomenon. Women have always supported their starving artist, struggling musician, and shady part-time drug dealer boyfriends. It’s actually the norm in Africa, where the men like to consider themselves to be lions meant to be supported by a harem of lionesses who do all the work for them, which finds echoes in the pimp-prostitute relationship.

What is new is the way that the feminization of higher education and the Human Resourcing of the corpocracy are increasingly preventing young men from accessing entire subsets of the workplace, even as the tinderization of the sexual market renders it more difficult for the average man to be paired up with the average woman.

And the situation is only going to be complicated as AI renders an increasing number of these female make-work jobs unnecessary and the failure of the global financial system prevents the big corporations from paying for large quantities of unproductive employees.

But not necessarily worse. Already there are a growing number of women on Instagram who are taking the “sign me up” approach to traditional relationships, as they see how unhappy and alone the drugged-out older career women are. And the stay-at-home boyfriend isn’t really an option for the average Delta, so the best thing to do is the same as always: improve yourself, improve your situation, and remember that you are the proactive hunter, not the reactive prey
